UFA, Russia – McKendree University wrestler Payton Stroud was eliminated from the 2021 Junior World Championships on Thursday morning, falling in her repechage match at 55 kg.

Stroud, who went 1-1 in her opening day of competition, was pulled into repechage competition, when Kalmira Bilimbek Kyzy from Kyrgyzstan, who defeated Stroud in the quarterfinals, advanced to the finals.

The American needed just one win to move onto the bronze match. She took on 2019 Cadet World bronze Munkhgerel Munkhbat from Mongolia in her repechage bout. Munkhbat rattled off four-straight takedowns and finished the match with a tilt to defeat Stroud, 10-0.

Three Americans will wrestle for gold medals later today, including Emily Shilson at 50 kg, Amit Elor at 68 kg and Kylie Welker at 76 kg. Medal matches will take place Thursday at 6 p.m. local time (9 a.m. ET). Fans can watch live on FloWrestling or follow along on USA Wrestling’s twitter @USAWrestling.
