Garrett Model selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Garrett Model (Stoughton, Wisc./Univ. of Wisconsin) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Jan. 18, 2022.
Model, a redshirt senior at the University of Wisconsin, helped the Badgers to a huge dual win over the weekend as his squad defeated Minnesota for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Model put together a huge win at 157 pounds, which was crucial in the 21-15 team win.
Ranked No. 33 in the country, Model took on No. 4 and returning All-American Brayton Lee. After a scoreless first period, Model took control, rattling off multiple takedowns for an eventual 10-5 decision.
It was the first time under head coach Chris Bono that the Badgers took down the Gophers.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
