Daniel Greg Kerkvliet (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Penn State) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Nov. 18, 2021.
In Penn State’s opening weekend of competition, Kerkvliet helped the Nittany Lions to two dominant team performances over Sacred Heart, 47-3, and Oregon State, 32-7.
Wrestling at heavyweight, Kerkvliet, a 2021 NCAA All-American as a freshman, earned a second-period fall over Sacred Heart's Mark Blokh, preceded by seven takedowns. In the dual against Oregon State, Kerkvliet took on and dominated No. 24 Gary Traub with a 16-0 technical fall.
For his 2-0 weekend, Kerkvliet also earned the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honor.
