Jennifer Tongi (Federal Way, Wash./Grays Harbor) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on May 18, 2021.
Competing in the first Junior College National Championship for women’s wrestling, Tongi competed at 155 pounds in the individual bracket as well as the dual team bracket. Overall, she went 7-0 in competition.
In the individual bracket as the No. 2 seed, she collected two pins and a decision to win the crown. In dual competition, Tongi recorded two more pins and also claimed two wins by forfeit. For her performance, Tongi was named the weekend's Outstanding Wrestler.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications and Social Media Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
