SoCon Wrestling Championships Wrap Exciting Day One

ASHEVILLE, NC – Defending champion App State posted three consecutive wins to close Friday’s semifinals and surged ahead of Chattanooga and Bellarmine to lead a tight team race at the 2026 Explore Asheville SoCon Wrestling Championships.
Stephan Monchery’s major decision gave the Mountaineers the lead heading into Saturday’s final day, following Logan Eller’s win at 197 and Tomas Brooker’s win at 184. Saturday’s action begins at 10:00 am inside Kimmel Arena, beginning with the Consolation Semifinals. The Consolation Finals are set for 1:00 pm, followed by the Finals at 3:00 pm. All sessions will stream live on ESPN+.

The Mountaineers, winners of three SoCon tournament titles in a row, finished with 69.5 points Friday, followed closely by Chattanooga (63) and Bellarmine (62.5), with the Knights posting their most impressive effort since joining the SoCon ranks.
Eight of the conference’s nine teams had a wrestler advance to the Finals. App State led the way with five, followed by Bellarmine (4), Chattanooga (4), and The Citadel (3). Davidson, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, and VMI each had one wrestler advance.
Seven top seeds will wrestle for an automatic berth to the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships, and Saturday will feature three matchups between the top two seeds – T.K. Davis (Gardner-Webb) vs. Ethan Uhorchuk (Chattanooga) at 133 pounds, Brooker (App State) vs. Reid Douglas (Presbyterian) at 184 pounds, and Kade Rule (Chattanooga) vs. Logan Eller (App State) at 197 pounds.
