CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The stage is set as the Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the pre-seeds and brackets for the 2026 ACC Wrestling Championship. The action unfolds this Sunday, March 8, at Cassell Coliseum on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
With national rankings, returning conference champions and NCAA implications on the line, this year’s championship promises a full day of high-intensity competition.
Four teams placed at least one wrestler at the top of the bracket as a No. 1 seed, led by NC State and Stanford with three top seeds each. Virginia Tech, the 2026 ACC Regular-Season Dual Meet Champion, secured two top seeds for the championship, while Pitt also enters with two wrestlers seeded No. 1 heading into Sunday’s conference championship.
Pre-seeds were determined by WrestleStat.com rankings, along with a vote of the league’s seven head coaches.
With seven competing teams in the ACC for the second consecutive year, the No. 1 seeds will get a bye into the quarterfinals at all 10 weight classes.
The 2026 championship field features six previous ACC Champions across six different weight classes, including four defending champions: Eddie Ventresca (Virginia Tech) – 125 pounds, Matty Singleton (NC State) – 174 pounds, Mac Stout (Pitt) – 197 pounds and Dayton Pitzer (Pitt) – 285 pounds.
In addition, Ryan Jack (NC State) returns after redshirting last season. The 2024 ACC Champion at 141 pounds, Jack looks to reclaim conference gold. Virginia’s Nick Hamilton, the 2024 champion at 165 pounds and 2024 Most Outstanding Wrestler, moves up to compete at 174 pounds this year.
Each weight class champion and runner-up at the 2026 ACC Championship will earn All-ACC recognition. In addition to ACC honors, student-athletes will compete for berths and seeding in the 2026 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, scheduled to take place March 19-21 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The ACC will send 39 automatic qualifiers to the 2026 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, matching the league’s all-time high previously set in 2022.
Five teams finished the regular season ranked in the NWCA Division I Men’s Coaches Poll. Virginia Tech led the way at No. 6, two spots in front of NC State at No. 8. The other three ACC schools also ranked in the top 20: Pitt (No. 13), North Carolina (No. 15) and Stanford (No. 18).
