Ham (10U) Keeps Girls Triple Crown Hopes Alive with Kids Folkstyle Nationals Title

Pins were the story in the 8U division, with four national titles decided by fall. In the trio of three-person round robins at 43, 46 and 85 pounds, Olive Yang-Elson, Mila Thao and Aliayah Boyer all went 2-0 with pins in each of their contests. Yang-Elson and Boyer logged just over a minute of mat time in their wins. Kunze was the fourth to pin her opponent in the finals. She racked up three first-period falls to cement her title.

In a tightly contested match in the 74-pound division, Chole Keys and Aria Paradise each collected three falls leading up to their championship showdown. The back-and-forth battle went to Keys with a third period take down to seal the 6-4 decision.

At 55 pounds, Mika Abeel collected a 9-0 major decision to win her first Kids Folkstyle National Championship.

Tyanna Evans was the lone girl to repeat in the 10U Girls division. She went 3-0 at 67 pounds. Evans collected a pair of pins, combining for just 50 seconds on the mat over her first two matches. In the final, she capped off the day with a 10-3 win against Aubrey D’Alie.

Three other finals in the 10U division were decided by pin. In a best two-of-three series at 45 pounds, Naya Rosman won her national title with a pair of falls. In the 49-pound division, Nayelli Romero collected a pin just 21 seconds into the finals. Jordan Dunigan won the round robin tournament at 107 pounds with three falls.

Close matches were scattered throughout the division, with seven of the 10 title bouts being decisions.
