ZAGREB, Croatia – Team USA lives to fight one more day at the 2025 World Championships. Greco-Roman group three athlete Payton Jacobson was pulled into repechage during the evening session at Zagreb Arena and will battle back for bronze on Sunday.
Jacobson, a 2024 Olympian, posted a 1-1 record during the preliminary rounds at 87 kg, picking up a win over India’s Karan Kamboj before dropping a 5-1 decision to five-time age-group World champion Aleksandr Komarov of Serbia in the round-of-16. Komarov secured a berth in the gold medal match, which gave new life to Jacobson.
Jacobson’s path to bronze begins against Soh Sakabe of Japan. He will need to win three-straight matches on Sunday night to end with a bronze medal.
Fellow Greco-Roman group three athletes Ellis Coleman and Alston Nutter were eliminated from medal contention during the first session. Coleman finished with a 1-1 record at 63 kg. Nutter was 0-1 at 67 kg.
