2025 World Championships Day Eight Match Notes

The 2025 Senior World Championships continue on Saturday from Arena Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. Today will feature Greco-Roman group two (60-72-97 kg) repechage and medal matches, plus Greco-Roman group three (63-67-87 kg) preliminary rounds. Updates and results from each Team USA match can be found below.
10:30 a.m. – Qualification Rounds (GR 63-67-87 kg), Repechage (GR 60-72-97 kg)
4:45 p.m. – Semifinals (GR 63-67-87 kg)
6 p.m. – Medal Matches (GR 60-72-97 kg)

Passivity point for Coleman and he gets to go on top at 4:38. Coleman gets close on a gutwrench exposure but can’t punch it through. Back to standing and it’s 1-0 Coleman. Coleman in a good position from a front headlock, tried a roll, looked close to a leg foul from Achilov, but not called. Achilov drives up and in to take control of the position, and he throws Coleman over the top. It’s scored 4 but didn’t look like Coleman exposed. The U.S. corner is challenging. The call stands making it 5-1 with 3:12 to go. Coleman presses in and gets arm tossed but time ran out in the period. Achilov comes back to the arm throw, lands it for two points correct throw, 7-1 Achilov. Achilov now gets a passivity point and chance on top. It’s 8-1 Achilov at 1:46. No turn from Achilov. A flying squirrel attempt from Coleman doesn’t work. He is countered to his back for four and falls 12-1 with one second left on the clock.
Jacobson earns the passivity advantage at 4:19, taking a 1-0 lead. No points for Jacobson from top. We are standing at 3:56. It’s 1-0 Jacobson after one. Jacobson put underneath 40 seconds into the second period, tied up 1-1. Komarov lands a gutwrench, but Jacobson limits the damage, 3-1 Komarov. The U.S. corner is challenging the sequence, exactly two minutes to go. Jacobson didn’t think he exposed and called for the challenge. Video shows he breaks 90-degrees, and the challenge fails. It’s 4-1 Komarov. Jacobson really presses hard the final two minutes. He easily could have earned another passivity point, but it isn’t called. Jacobson steps out in the final seconds. Komarov takes the win, 5-1.
Nutter goes underneath from passivity at 4:25, 1-0 Etlinger. Low gut series for Etlinger scores, times four, and the match is over in 2:09. The U.S. corner is challenging that Nutter was out-of-bounds before the final turn. The call stands and it’s 10-0 final score for Etlinger.
Ri gets the chance on top first. A low gut series of attempts is snuffed out by Black, still 1-0 Ri with one minute left in the first period. Ri steals a takedown at the end of the period to go up 3-0 into the break. A hip toss to the back right out of the gate in the second period for four points Ri. He adds a gutwrench to end it, 9-0.
Over-under body lock for Coleman. He throws a headlock and sticks it. Mohamed reverses the headlock with exposure. Coleman leads it 4-2. Mohamed gets to the body and lifts Coleman going off the mat. Officials conferring on the call, it is scored no points. Not sure what the logic was for a no call there. Mohamed challenging the call. Upon review, Mohamed stepped out first so Coleman gets a point to go up 5-2. Coleman looks to have an over-under body lock secured, Mohamed tries a throw to counter Coleman’s action, Mohamed exposes upon landing, and we are back standing quickly. The action was called two points for Coleman. Mohamed challenging again. The call stands, point to Coleman, and he takes it by technical fall, 10-2.
Jacobson setting the tone with physicality. He converts an arm spin takedown and goes right into a trapped arm gut. Three turns and Jacobson ends it 8-0 at 4:51.
Black gets put down at 4:33 for passivity, 1-0 Fetene. No points for Fetene and we are brought up at 4:05. It’s 1-0 Fetene at the break. Step out point to Black, plus a caution and one for fleeing. Black takes over the lead, 2-1, at 2:38. Black adds another step out point halfway through the second period to bump the lead to 3-1. High dive attempt from Fetene, Black counters nicely on the edge and forces Fetene off the mat. It’s called one point for Black. The call being challenged by Fetene and is upheld. Point to Black and he finishes off the match, 5-1.
Sancho gets put down at 4:35 for passivity, 1-0 Khachatryan. A high gut lands for Khachatryan, Sancho reverses it on a second turn attempt. Khachatryan leads after the exchange, 3-1. Blood Time Khachatryan at 3:48. It’s 3-1 for Khachatryan at the break. Sancho is being put down again at 2:15, 4-1 Khachatryan. No points from the par terre session. It doesn’t look like Sancho will get a chance on top. Sancho has an over-under lock but gives up takedown on the edge. Khachatryan goes up 6-1 and finishes out the match.
