2025 World Championships Day Three Match Notes

The 2025 Senior World Championships continue on Monday from Arena Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia. Today will feature men’s freestyle group two (57-74-79-92 kg) repechage and medal matches, men’s freestyle group three (65-97 kg) preliminary rounds and women’s freestyle group one (55-59 kg) preliminary rounds. Updates and results from each Team USA match can be found below.
10:30 a.m. – Qualification Rounds (MFS 65-97 kg, WFS 55-59 kg), Repechage (MFS 57-74-79-92 kg)
4:30 p.m. – Semifinals (MFS 65-97 kg, WFS 55-59 kg)
6 p.m. – Medal Matches (MFS 57-74-79-92 kg)

Hidlay blasts in on a shot but gets redirected for four points. Gadzhimagomedov ends up on top from the counter and adds a gut wrench to take an early 6-0 lead. Hidlay gets to his spot, drops from an underhook to a single leg off the mat to cut into the lead, 6-2. In the same scenario as before, Hidlay gets in deep on a double leg and Gadzhimagomedov rolls it through. The sequence is called 4-2 for Gadzhimagomedov, and it’s 10-4 on the scoreboard. The U.S. corner is challenging the call. The sequence is changed to 4-0 Gadzhimagomedov, rather than 4-2, so it’s 10-2 on the scoreboard. The challenge is technically won because the points changed, but it increases Hidlay’s deficit. Hidlay is back in on the attack. He lifts a single leg, exposing Gadzhimagomedov, but does expose himself as well. The call is two points Hidlay and is being challenged. It is upheld upon review, point to Hidlay, and the score sits 10-5 going into the break. Hidlay gets in deep again at the start of the period—credit to Gadzhimagomedov for working out of it without giving up any points. No points have come since the break, and we are halfway through the second period. Hidlay powers through a double leg to make it 10-7 with 58 seconds on the clock. And another! It’s 10-9 Gadzhimagomedov with 53 seconds left. Hidlay strikes for four to take over the lead, 13-10, with 17 seconds remaining. The score holds and Hidlay is your World champion.
Haines is put on the shot clock 1:34 into the match, knotted at zeroes. The clock expires and Kougioumtsidis is on the board first, 1-0. A snatch single for Kougioumtsidis drives Haines off the mat for another point. It’s 2-0 Kougioumtsidis at the break. Kougioumtsidis goes on the clock at the 1:39 mark in the second period, still 2-0. A single leg for Kougioumtsidis going off the mat give him a third point and nullifies the shot clock. There is 1:23 left for Haines to mount a comeback. Haines gets around behind as time expires, but it won’t be enough. Kougioumtsidis wins it, 3-2.
Carr goes on the clock at halfway through the first period in a scoreless match. Point on the board for Sidakov after the clock expires to take the 1-0 advantage. The score sticks to the period break. Carr gets in deep on a head outside single, Sidakov cuts the corner and locks in the crotch for a stalemate. Sidakov goes on the clock with 2:13 to go in the match. Carr converts a single leg, backside trip finish going off the mat. The action is only called one point—possibility it could have been two, but corner doesn’t challenge. The shot clock expires, and Carr takes over the lead, 2-1, halfway through the period. Sidakov starts his sprint in the final moments and Carr steps out with 5 seconds on the clock. Sidakov steals the win at the end on criteria, 2-2.
Yoshida catches a knee pull and almost gets Snyder down. Snyder counters by snatching the ankle, reversing position and ending up on top going out-of-bounds. A hard-fought takedown for Snyder to go up 2-0. That does it for the first period, which was uneventful outside of the opening sequence. The second period begins, and Snyder gets extended on a head outside single. Yoshida tries to cut the corner, but Snyder counters for two. It’s 4-0 Snyder with two minutes left. Snyder creates a nice angle, drives through a single leg finish off the mat for another point. A go-behind takedown for Snyder ups the lead to 7-0 with 1:07 to go. Yoshida on the board with a step out point at 47-second mark. Snyder finishes it off with an edge takedown to win 9-1 and return to the World finals.
A step out for Snyder 28 seconds into the match gives him the early 1-0 advantage. Baranowski is put on the shot clock 1:53 into the period. Snyder drives to an ankle pick going out-of-bounds to score a takedown. It’s 3-0 Snyder with 40 seconds to go in the period. The shot clock expires to give Snyder a 4-0 lead, which holds until the break. Little action so far in the second. It’s 4-0 Snyder with two minutes left. Snyder drives an underhook off the mat with 1:27 remaining to increase his lead to five. Snyder nearly finishes a single leg, but Baranowski kicks out to escape. That does it for this one, 5-0 Snyder.
A single leg right away for Woods, who drives through to a double leg, but Amouzadkhalili pops it through for two exposure points. Now in an over/under position, Amouzadkhalili drives through the hook side for a takedown. It’s 4-0 just 54 seconds into the match. Good action goes to the edge, and no points are scored. Amouzadkhalili is challenging for a step out. The call is upheld, point to Woods. Amouzadkhalili strikes with a double leg, running Woods off the mat. It is called a four-pointer after the officials take a moment to confer. It’s 8-1 in favor of Amouzadkhalili at the break. A high-c comes close to connecting for Woods, but heavy hips by Amouzadkhalili forces a way out of it. Another takedown for Amouzadkhalili to go up 10-1. We have a fresh start at 1:16. Amouzadkhalili finishes the match with a single leg going off the mat. The U.S. corner is challenging that Amouzadkhalili stepped out first. The call is upheld and another point for Amouzadkhalili makes the final score 12-1.
Ana on the clock midway through a scoreless first period. Rodriguez lifts a single leg near the edge, comes close to scoring but gets rolled through from standing for four, comes out on top for one reversal, 4-1. A point was added to Rodriguez’s tally from the shot clock expiring before points were scored in the last exchange to go into the break 4-2. Ana shoots Rodriguez off the mat for another point. High level single leg for Ana drives Rodriguez out-of-bounds again to take a 6-2 lead. Rodriguez pushes an underhook tie off the mat to make it 6-3 late. Unable to complete the comeback, Rodriguez falls, 6-3.
Snyder snaps the ties to a single leg and transitions into a pair of gutwrenches to take a 6-0 lead halfway through the first period. Snyder chases down a single leg with about 30 seconds to go in the period for another two. He finishes the match 10-0 from an ankle pick score with 14-seconds left in the first period.
Sacultan goes on the shot clock at the 1:30 mark of the first period. We are scoreless. The shot clock expires, and Woods goes up 1-0 early. Woods snatches a single leg, but Sacultan kicks out for no points. Woods is back to the low level, gets to a quad pod position and convert for two with 25 seconds left in the period. Woods explodes for three gutwrenches to go up 9-0. When trying to get a fourth turn, Woods gets caught in a headlock for two but comes back out on top before time expires in the period. It’s 10-2 at the break. A four-point double leg finish ends it for Woods, 14-4, 39 seconds into the second period.
Carr drives through a double leg to take the early 2-0 lead in first 35 seconds. Carr picks the ankle and gets another takedown going out-of-bounds, 4-0. A takedown right into a lace for another two-and-two puts Carr up 8-0. He finishes it with a blast double, 10-0.
Liang lands a single leg 18 seconds into the match for a 2-0 lead. Liang is back to a head outside single, Winchester tries to cut the corner and gets caught in a near-side cradle. Liang stacks Winchester on her back and pins in 2:05.
