New Era Begins: Southwest Wrestling Club launches to support Arizona and Regional athletes
by Southwest Wrestling Club
TEMPE, AZ | September 11, 2025 — A new era for wrestling in the Southwest has arrived. Southwest Wrestling Club (SWWC), a dynamic for-profit organization built in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU) and aligned with USA Wrestling guidelines, has officially launched with a mission to elevate wrestling across Arizona and the broader region.
SWWC represents the next evolution of a board-led initiative created to support Sun Devil Wrestling. As the program’s reach expanded, with approximately 17 percent of donations now coming from outside of Arizona, the leadership team recognized the need to expand. That vision led to a restructuring of the board and the formation of a NCAA compliant, scalable model designed for long-term growth and enhanced resources.
“When Sunkist Wrestling stepped away, it left a huge void in our community. What Art Martori built was legendary, and Southwest Wrestling Club exists to honor and build on that legacy. I’ve assembled an exceptional team of strategic thinkers and leaders, bringing together deep wrestling roots and proven business expertise. Together, we are committed to building something special that elevates wrestling in Arizona and across the Southwest. ”
— Ken McElroy, Co-Founder, Southwest Wrestling Club
With a Regional Training Center on the horizon, Southwest Wrestling Club is building a foundation for long-term athlete development and regional impact. The club supports wrestlers through every stage of their journey, providing the resources they need to win NCAA, World, and Olympic titles.
“Our goal is simple, to help our young men reach their full human potential on their journey to becoming NCAA, World, and Olympic champions. With the backing of Southwest Wrestling Club, we now have the tools to support athletes not just during their time at ASU, but throughout their Olympic journeys. A big thank you to ASU, Ken, Willie, and Dave and those that are supporting our mission.”
— Zeke Jones, Head Coach, ASU Wrestling
The club will support athletes not only through elite training, but also through personalized mentorship and career resources that prepare them for life beyond the mat.
“It’s a place where athletes grow beyond the mat. A culture committed to making wrestlers feel supported, valued, and prepared to lead in whatever path they choose, on and off the mat.”
— David Kiley, Director, Southwest Wrestling Club
With a leadership team that blends business excellence and wrestling including Ken McElroy, Willie Pyette, and David Kiley, SWWC is positioned to become a regional cornerstone for wrestling excellence. For further information, please visit www.swwrestlingclub.com
