PIN ratings in both styles announced for U23 Nationals in Geneva, Ohio, May 30-June 1

Updated USA Wrestling PIN ratings have been released for the 2025 U23 Nationals in both men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman, which will be held at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, May 30-June 1. At this point, there are 1,190 athletes registered to compete, including

The top 10 wrestlers in each weight class based on USA Wrestling PIN ratings in each style, are listed below.

PIN ratings are not seeds. PIN ratings and athlete separation within each bracket are not final until after weigh-ins and subject to change based on final entries.

USA Wrestling’s Performance Index, abbreviated as PIN, is used for separating top athletes at USA Wrestling regional and national events. Each wrestler is assigned a PIN rating based on his or her results over time.

The men’s freestyle tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Among those who received the No. 1 PIN in their weight class in freestyle is returning U23 Nationals champion and 2023 U20 World bronze medalist Nic Bouzakis of Pennsylvania (61 kg). Two-time age-group World champion Meyer Shapiro of Maryland has the No. 1 PIN at 70 kg. Shapiro was a 2023 U20 World champion and a 2021 U17 World champion.

Rocco Welsh of Pennsylvania, a 2021 Junior Pan American Games champion, has the top PIN at 86 kg. Daniel Cardenas of Colorado, a 2024 U23 Pan American champion, had the best PIN at 74 kg. Cooper Flynn of Tennessee, a 2023 U23 World Team member, is the No. 1 PIN at 57 kg. Carter Young of Oklahoma, who was a 2021 U20 Pan American champion, has the top PIN at 65 kg. Beau Mantanona of California, a 2021 U17 World Team member, has the top PIN at 79 kg. Two-time age-group World Team member Christian Carroll of Texas has the best PIN at 97 kg.

Other men’s freestyle wrestlers with No. 1 PINs in their weight class are Carson Thomas of Ohio at 92 kg and Aden Attao of Oregon at 125 kg.

Four returning men’s freestyle champions are in the U23 Nationals field: Bouzakis, Hunter Garvin of Iowa (74 kg), Massoma Endene of Iowa (97 kg) and Lucas Stoddard of the West Point WC (125). Add two returning U23 Nationals freestyle runners-up to the field, Charlie Farmer of West Point WC (57 kg) and Cael Swensen of Jackrabbit WC (74 kg).

2025 NCAA runner-up Michael Caliendo of Iowa is registered at 74 kg, as well as NCAA Div. I All-Americans CJ Composto of Penn (65 kg). Other wrestlers to watch in the freestyle division are Jett Strickenberger of Colorado (57 kg), Vince Cornella of Colorado (65 kg), Cael Valencia of California (79 kg), Brayden Thompson of Oklahoma (86 kg) and Seth Shumate of Ohio (92 kg).

The Greco-Roman tournament will be held first on Friday, May 30. Among those with No. 1 PINs in their weight class is 2022 and 2024 U20 World bronze medalist Aden Attao of Oregon at 130 kg. Attao is the only athlete to get a No. 1 PIN in both Greco-Roman and freestyle at this tournament.

Aydin Rix McElhinney of Maine, a 2024 U20 World Team member, has the top PIN at 77 kg. Adrian Artsisheuskiy of New York, a 2024 U23 Nationals runner-up, has the best PIN at 82 kg. Kenneth Crosby of Colorado, who was second in the 2024 Senior World Team Trials, is at No. 1 in PIN rating at 55 kg. 2024 Junior Nationals Greco-Roman champion Rhett Peak of Oklahoma tops the PIN ratings at 60 kg.

Others with No. 1 PINs in Greco-Roman are James Joplin of North Carolina (63 kg), Brennan Van Hoecke of Florida (67 kg), Matthew Randolph of Minnesota (72 kg), Jared Thiry of Iowa (87 kg) and Max Ramberg of Wisconsin (97 kg)

At this time, there are three returning U23 Nationals Greco-Roman champions in the field: Jakason Burks of MWC Wrestling Academy (60 kg), Tyson Beauperthuy of Colorado (87 kg) and Keith Miley of Arkansas RTC (130 kg). Three returning Greco-Roman runners-up in the draw include Artsisheuskiy, plus Davian Guanajuato of Southern Illinois RTC (55 kg) and Bruce Wagers of Cincinnati RTC (130 kg).
