16U National Duals return to Herriman, Utah, June 11-14, with California (freestyle) & Iowa (Greco-Roman) returning champions

The 16U National Duals return to the Zions Bank Real Academy in Herriman, Utah, June 11-14.  The tournament will feature dual meet competition between state association teams for boys in the two Olympic disciplines, men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman.

The returning champions from last year’s event in Herriman were California in freestyle and Iowa in Greco-Roman.

The event begins with Greco-Roman action on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by freestyle action on Friday and Saturday.

In 2024, Iowa defeated California, 40-30 in the championship dual meet in Greco-Roman. Illinois placed third after defeating Utah Gold, 40-37. Minnesota Blue finished in fifth place, defeating Washington 49-27 in their medal match. Claiming seventh place was Missouri, a 51-25 winner over Oklahoma Red.

California was the 2024 16U men’s freestyle champion, defeating a tough Pennsylvania team 43-28 in the championship dual. Iowa defeated Indiana, 44-28 in the third-place match. Placing fifth was Wisconsin, 43-32 winner over Illinois in their medal mat. Utah Gold earned seventh place after stopping Georgia, 52-25.

The first day of each style will feature the pool competition, where teams will compete against a number of teams in preliminary pools. Based upon the results of the preliminary pool competition, the top two teams from each pool will advance to the Gold/Silver pool, which determines the top eight teams in the tournament. There will be three other placement pools which determine the final team placements in the tournament: Bronze/Copper, Red/Blue and Green/Yellow). Medal matches will be held in each pool to conclude the second day.

An All-Tournament Team, featuring athletes who go undefeated in their individual matches in a specific style, will be announced after each tournament.

Heading into the tournament, there were 34 state association teams registered in freestyle and 30 in Greco-Roman. The teams will be separated based upon PIN ratings, with the official seeds being announced right before the competition.

Tickets for the event are available on site. All Session tickets are $50, with a $30 ticket for all Greco-Roman sessions and a $30 ticket for all men’s freestyle sessions.
