U.S men’s freestylers to compete in Ziolkowski Memorial, women’s freestylers in Poland Open, July 30-August 3
by Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling
A group of talented young U.S. Senior men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle wrestlers will compete at the annual major international competitions hosted by the Polish Wrestling Federation in Warsaw, Poland, July 30 – August 3.
A roster of 16 U.S. women freestyle wrestlers will compete in the 20th Poland Open, while a team of seven U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers will wrestle in the 34th Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial. Also being held in Warsaw is the Wladyslaw Pytlasinski Memorial in Greco-Roman, in which there will be no U.S. entries this year.
The U.S. women’s team will include five young stars who qualified for the 2025-26 Senior National Team, which includes the top three athletes in each weight class. Those hitting the mats at the Poland Open are Kendra Ryan (50 kg), Sydney Petzinger (53 kg), Alara Boyd (62 kg), Jennifer Page (65 kg) and Kaylynn Albrecht (72 kg). Page was a 2023 Senior World bronze medalist. Boyd won a pair of U17 World medals for the USA, a bronze in 2016 and a silver in 2017.
Alexis Janiak (59 kg), a two-time U20 World medalist, will also compete. Janiak won a U20 World bronze in 2023 and a U20 World silver in 2024. Also competing will be 2023 U.S. Open champion and past Senior National Team member Joye Levendusky (76 kg). Janiak was a 2025 NCWWC national champion (for NCAA teams) for Aurora University. The team will also include a number of other talented athletes from the women’s college wrestling programs, many who have already made an impact in USA Wrestling age-group competitions.
The women’s freestyle competition will be held over three days, Thursday (July 31), Friday (August 1) and Saturday (August 2).
The men’s freestyle roster is led by 2023 World champion and 2024 World bronze medalist Vito Arujau (61 kg). Arujau most recently competed in a Final X Special Wrestle-off in Fargo, N.D. last week. Arujau has also won two age-group World silver medals, and was a two-time NCAA champion at Cornell.
Another current Senior National Team member competing in Poland is DJ Hamiti (79 kg). Hamiti is currently No. 3 on the National Team. Hamiti is coming off a big pin over Mokhmad Nasirkhaev in the USA vs. Russia dual meet in Budapest on Monday. Hamiti was a 2025 NCAA champion for Oklahoma State.
Purdue’s 2025 NCAA runner-up Joey Blaze (74 kg), who is No. 4 on the national men’s freestyle ladder, will also compete. 2025 U.S. Senior Open placewinners Brayton Lee (70 kg), Simon Ruiz (79 kg) and Dustin Plott (92 kg) are also scheduled to wrestle.
The men’s freestyle competition is held over two days, Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3.
Session times each day are at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., local time. Warsaw is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone.
