Westfield, Ind. – An action-filled first day of the 14U Freestyle Women’s National Duals set the tone for an exciting weekend as Pennsylvania Blue (Pool A), Washington (Pool B), Illinois (Pool C) and Wisconsin (Pool D) placed first in the preliminary pool rounds.

Twenty-three teams began the day in one of four preliminary pools. The top two teams from each preliminary pool advanced to the Gold/Silver bracket where they are guaranteed a top-eight finish and remain in contention for the title.

Pennsylvania Blue, the top seed in the tournament, finished day one in the top spot in Pool A. They started strong with a 73-3 victory over Tennessee and continued with a strong momentum, defeating Arkansas 75-0 and Georgia 66-7 in following rounds. Pennsylvania Blue's offensive strength was evident in their 60-16 win over Minnesota, as they recorded four wins by technical fall and three falls. They secured the top spot in the pool after besting Texas 61-17 in round five. Pennsylvania Blue won 13 of the 16 matches in their final round against Texas.

No. 2 Washington claimed the top spot in Pool B, despite an initial setback in round one. After falling in a close dual to California 37-35, they rebounded strongly in round two, defeating New York 55-17. In round three, Washington won 12 of the 16 matches against Virginia, securing a 59-12 victory. Washington maintained their winning streak with a 56-19 win over North Dakota in round four, and was able to solidify the top spot in Pool B with a 39-37 win over Oklahoma in round five. Payton Bennett and Briella Portrey’s victories in the last few matches were enough to hold Washington’s position, as Oklahoma won the last two bouts of the dual, unable to generate enough to edge out Washington.

It was No. 3 Illinois that finished atop the group in Pool C, winning all five duals on day one. They opened with a 46-26 win over Missouri and continued their streak with a 64-12 victory over Iowa. Illinois limited South Carolina to just nine points in a 68-9 win, claiming seven bonus point victories. Illinois defeated Pennsylvania Red 48-24 in round four, and clinched the top finish in Pool C with a 43-30 victory over Arizona.

The top finishing team in Pool D was No. 6 Wisconsin. The team wrestled four duals on day one, receiving a bye in round three. Wisconsin started the tournament with a 45-22 win over Indiana in round one and a 45-30 victory over Ohio in round two. Round four of the day saw Wisconsin best Michigan 47-23. They capped off their day one performance with a 42-26 win over Kansas in round.

No. 8 Texas (Pool A), No. 7 Oklahoma (Pool B), No. 5 Arizona (Pool C) and No. 4 Kansas (Pool D) earned runner-up finishes in their respective preliminary pools, and will advance to the Gold/Silver pool on day two.
