Indiana, Iowa, Illinois and California are top four seeds at 16U Freestyle National Duals

HERRIMAN, Utah - The top four seeded teams for the 16U National Duals in freestyle have been determined after weighins at the Zions Bank Real Academy on Thursday night.

No. 1 seed Indiana will the top seed in Pool A. No. 2 seed Iowa will be the top seed in Pool B. No. 3 seed Illinois will be the top seed in Pool C. No. 4 seed California will be the top seed in Pool D.

The seeded teams are based upon the average PIN rating of each of the athletes on the state team rosters. Here are the top 16 seeded teams in the tournament.

In the 16U National Duals freestyle finals last year, Iowa became a double champion by stopping Illinois, 41-26. Ohio Scarlet defeated Pennsylvania Blue, 34-32, to place third. Finishing in fifth was Wisconsin Red, a 46-27 victor over Minnesota Blue. Claiming seventh place was Ohio Gray, which stopped Michigan Blue 39-35 in their medal match.

The 16U National Duals is traditionally a preview of the individual athletes who will be stars this summer at the U.S. Marine Corps 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D.

Among those entered, based upon preliminary team rosters, is 2023 16U Nationals freestyle champion Shamus Regan of Pennsylvania (112), 16U Nationals freestyle runners-up Turner Ross of Minnesota (106) and Bruno Cassioppi of Illinois (120), plus 16U Nationals freestyle third-place finishers Case Bell of Indiana (106), Clinton Shepherd of Indiana (138) and Eli Herring of Pennsylvania (113).

There are three 2024 U15 Nationals freestyle champions on the preliminary rosters: Gage Lohr of South Dakota (126), Jason Dube of Pennsylvania (138) and Kendahl Hoare of Pennsylvania (190).

Session times on Friday are 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
