The U23 and U17 age divisions are paired for action on both Friday and Saturday. Also on Saturday, the 14U age group will be contested from start to finish, and U20 action will wrestle through the semifinal rounds. Sunday sees all medal matches for U20, and the 8U, 10U, 12U and U15 tournaments contested.
This is an event where athletes can earn credit towards the 2024 Girls Triple Crown.
There are two athletes that won titles in the U23 division at last year’s event in Montana DeLawder and Adaugo Nwachukwu. DeLawder is the reigning champion at 57 kg and is expected to compete at 55 kg this year. Nwachukwu, recently named the USA Wrestling Women’s College Wrestler of the Year, is last year’s champion at 62 kg in both the U23 and U20 divisions. A three-time age-group World Team member, Nwachukwu was the runner-up at 2023 Final X and is a current member of the Senior National Team.
Four athletes will be moving to the U23 division following top finishes in other age divisions last year. Amani Jones was the victor at 55 kg in the U20 division and is registered to compete at the U23 level this year. Jones is a 2021 U20 Pan American Championships gold medalist and earned a bronze at the 2023 U20 World Championships. Heather Crull, Karlee Brooks and Jasmine Robinson are all last year’s champions in the U17 division. Crull and Robinson claimed bronze at the 2023 U17 World Championships, and Brooks placed fifth. Crull and Robinson are also registered to compete in the U20 division.
Katie Gomez makes her return to Spokane after winning the 53 kg bracket in the U20 division in 2023. She is a four-time age-group World Team member, a 2023 Final X runner-up and Senior National Team member. In February, Gomez earned a bronze medal at the Senior Pan American Championships in Acapulco, Mexico.
A returning champion and U20 bronze medalist will be back in action in Spokane in Alexis Janiak. Janiak won the event at 59 kg last year and is set to return in the same category. Cristelle Rodriguez, returning national champion at 57 kg, drops down to 55 kg for this tournament.
There are four athletes that won in the U17 division in 2023 and are slated to compete in the same division in 2024. Jaclyn Bouzakis (46 kg), Morgan Turner (46 kg), Everest Leydecker (57 kg) and Piper Fowler (73 kg) are registered in the U17 division. Turner and Fowler both captured gold at the 2023 U17 World Championships while Bouzakis earned bronze. Leydecker is also set to compete at 55 kg in the U20 division.
Champions in the U17 division that will move to the U20 division include Rianne Murphy (50 kg), Haylie Jaffe (62 kg) and May Prado (68 kg). Jaffe is a 2023 U17 World bronze medalist, and Murphy is a two-time age-group Pan American Championships gold medalist.
Seven of last year’s ten champions in the U15 division are expected to compete at the USMC Women’s National Championships. Maisie Elliott (36 kg), Gail Sullivan (42 kg), Epenesa Elison (50 kg), and Taina Fernandez (62 kg) remain in the U15 division this year. Elison and Fernandez are also registered to compete in the U17 division, while Sullivan is slated to compete in the 14U girls division at 93 pounds. Alysa Patel (43 kg), Emma Bacon (57 kg) and Jayci Shelton (69 kg) move to the U17 division in 2024.
A total of eight champions in the 14U division are slated to compete this weekend. Brynn Engel, Hailey Delgado, and Marie Sharp are past champions that are competing in both the U15 and U17 divisions this weekend. Kaili Manuel (73 kg) and Matilda Hruby (73 kg) make the jump from the 14U division to the U17 division. Olivia Bezdicek (54 kg) , Ava Guilmette (66 kg) and Cadence Butts (66 kg) are 2023 14U champions slated to compete in the U15 division this year. Hannah Naccarati-Cholo (50 kg) will return to the 14U division and adds the U15 division for this tournament.
Among the ten returning champions from the 12U age division, seven will be competing in both the 14U and U15 divisions this year. Jasmine Buck, Abigail Peterson, Olivia Hernandez, Mylah Henebry, Bella Manno, Zaylyn Woods and Hailey Worden are those competing in both divisions. Champions from 2023 that will only compete in the 14U division include Payten Van Pelt (108 pounds), Leilani Nanquilada (112 pounds) and Taylynn Stratton (121 pounds).
Seven champions from last year’s tournament in the 10U division make the trip back to Spokane. Of the seven, three will move up to the 12U division. Boheme Parr-Coffin (57 pounds), Isabella Graham (57 pounds), Maddison Brown (62 pounds), Anaya Patacsil (73 pounds) are set to compete in the 10U division. Kynlee Douglas (75 pounds), Lauren Lopez (81 pounds) and Hope Johnson (87 pounds) are registered for 12U action.
Rounding out the action in Spokane is the 8U division. Three returning champions look to defend their titles this weekend. Kleonna Block (55 pounds) is the lone athlete that will make her way back into the 8U division. Both Lilly Rollans (67 pounds) and Carly Cogger (73 pounds) are set for the 10U division.
Action will begin in Spokane at 10 a.m. (PDT) for all three days of competition. The tournament will be broadcast live online at FloWrestling.com (subscription required). Brackets and live results will be hosted on Trackwrestling.com.
