Isaac Trumble (Springfield, Neb./Wolfpack WC/Titan Mercury WC) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on October 26, 2023.
Trumble won the gold medal at 97 kg at the U23 World Championships in Tirana, Albana. He competed on October 24-25.
Competing in his first age-group World Championships, Trumble dominated his opponents, scoring three technical falls and a lopsided decision, outscoring his opponents 47-6.
He opened with a 13-4 decision over Ito Hibiki of Japan, then had a pair of 11-0 technical fall over Oktay Ciftci of Turkey and Sergey Sargsyan of Armenia. In the championship finals, Trumble stopped Radu Lefter of Mongolia with a 12-2 technical fall.
Trumble was one of four U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers to win a U23 World title, joined by Keegan O’Toole (74 kg), Aaron Brooks (86 kg) and Wyatt Hendrickson (130 kg). In the six years of this age-group World tournament, the USA had never more than one U23 World champion in the same year. Led by six medalists, including the four champions, the United States won the U23 World Team Title for the first time, beating runner-up Turkey and third-place Azerbaijan.
Trumble is a two-time U.S. Senior Open runner-up (2022, 2023) and is currently ranked No. 3 on the Senior National Freestyle Team. He was also a runner-up at the 2022 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. He is a junior at North Carolina State, a 2022 NCAA qualifier and ACC runner-up. In high school, he was a two-time Nebraska state champion at Millard South High School.
