Wyoming Seminary are champs, Somar Raiders runner-up in star-studded Sunshine Preseason National Duals for girls

ORLANDO, Fla. – After two days of intense competition in both freestyle and folkstyle, Wyoming Seminary was crowned champions of the girls division at the Sunshine Preseason National Duals.
The top four teams based upon two days of competition were Wyoming Seminary in first, Somar Raiders of California in second, Florida Tidal Wave in third and Michigan Revolution in fourth.
Saturday, the competition was entirely in freestyle, with action in two different pools. Wyoming Seminary won Saturday’s Freestyle Pool 1 with a 4-0 record, including a win over pool runner-up Somar Raiders, 63-30. The Florida Tidal Wave won Saturday’s Freestyle Pool 2 with a 4-0 record, including a 50-43 win over Michigan Revolution.
On Sunday, two new pools were drawn and pool matches were in folkstyle. Sunday’s Folkstyle Pool 1 was claimed by the Somar Raiders with a 4-0 record, including a 71-29 win over Michigan Revolution. Sunday’s Folkstyle Pool 2 was captured by Wyoming Seminary with a 4-0 record, including a 65-36 win over Florida Tidal Wave.
Based upon the pool competition on both days, the top four teams were placed into the gold pool, which was contested in freestyle. The Gold Pool semifinals were held, with Wyoming Seminary beating Michigan Revolution, 65-33, and Somar Raiders beating Florida Tidal Wave, 47-38. Because of the timing, including the travel needs of some teams, no Gold pool finals or third place dual meets were held.
Over the course of the two days, Wyoming Seminary, which was the No. 1 high school team in the nation in 2019-20, won all nine of its dual meets, the only team to go undefeated for the tournament. In their nine dual meet victories, Wyoming Seminary’s combined dual meet scores were 731-157.
The Somar Raiders had an 8-1 record over the two days to take second. The Florida Tidal Wave was third with a 7-2 record, and the Michigan Revolution was fourth in 6-3 record.
The tournament was absolutely loaded with talent, with dozens of nationally ranked athletes on the rosters. There were numerous matches between two ranked wrestlers, with the results expected to play a big factor in the December Girls National High School Rankings.
