As reported by Inside the Games, the International Olympic Committee has updated the medal standings for the 120 kg men's freestyle event at the 2012 Olympic Games.

With this official change, U.S. wrestler Tervel Dlagnev is officially elevated to an Olympic bronze medalist in this weight class.

This change was necessary after Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan, who initially received the gold medal in 2012, was stripped of his title due to a positive doping re-test. Another medalist, the silver medalist in 2012 Davit Modmanishvili of Georgia, was also stripped of a medal at this weight classs because of a positive doping re-test.

Although it was expected that the champion might be Iran's Khomeil Ghasemi, the IOC is awarding two gold medals in this weight class, to Ghasemi and Bilyal Makhov of Russia.

Here is the official medal results as posted on the IOC site.

Gold - Bilyal Makhov, Russia

Gold - Komeil Ghasemi, Iran

Bronze - Daulet Shabanbay, Kazakhstan

Bronze - Tervel Dlagnev, United States

Note: This result is not yet updated on United World Wrestling's database, which still has Taymazov with the gold, Modzmanashvili with the silver, both Makhov and Ghasemi with the bronze, and Shabanbay and Dlagnev in fifth.

USA Wrestling has previously reported on the positive re-tests for Taymazov and Modzmanishvili but there was still a possible appeal process available to the athletes who were stripped of the medals. With the IOC posting changing the medal standing in its official database, Team USA can celebrate another Olympic wrestling medal to its rich history of success.

With the update, the USA won four Olympic medals in men's freestyle at the London Games:

Jordan Burroughs (gold, 74 kg)

Jake Varner (gold, 96 kg)

Coleman Scott (bronze, 60 kg)

Tervel Dlagnev (bronze, 120 kg)

Inside the Games: Ghasemi and Makhov set to be awarded London 2012 wrestling title

Iran’s Komeil Ghasemi and Russia’s Bilyal Makhov have been upgraded to gold medals in the men’s 120-kilogram freestyle wrestling event at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Uzbekistan's Artur Taymazov was last year stripped of the Olympic title from London 2012 after testing positive for the banned steroid oral turinabol in retests.

He became the second athlete to have failed a drugs test retrospectively from Beijing 2008 and London 2012, following Kazakhstani weightlifter Ilya Ilyin.

Taymazov won the 120kg freestyle gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens before he defended the title at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

He was stripped of the Beijing 2008 gold in April 2017.

Georgia's Davit Modzmanashvili, who lost the gold-medal bout to the Uzbek, had already been stripped of his silver medal following a positive retest.
