Yesterday, three-time Senior World Team member Jenna Burkert announced that she will begin training with the Southeast RTC in Blacksburg, Virginia. Burkert, a current Army World Class Athlete Program member, will split her time between the two programs.
The Southeast RTC made waves two weeks ago when they signed two-time World medalist James Green, who had been previously training at the Nebraska Wrestling Training Center. Burkert will join Green as well as 2017 U23 World bronze medalist Ty Walz, who is currently No. 3 on the National Team at 97 kg.
Burkert is currently No. 1 at 57 kg. She has represented the U.S. at the past two World Championships and was also a member of the 2014 World Team. Additionally, Burkert competed on three-straight Junior World Teams from 2011-2013 and wrestled in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
Burkert is a 2019 Pan Am Games silver medalist and placed fourth in the 2017 CISM Military World Championships. She has made the finals of the U.S. Open four times, bringing home a title in 2017.
A Rocky Point, N.Y. native, Burkert previously trained at Northern Michigan University and has been a resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center.
