Bout One: Kyle Snyder (Titan Mercury WC) dec. Jake Varner (Nittany Lion WC), 4-1

Bout Two: Kyle Snyder (Titan Mercury WC) dec. Jake Varner (Nittany Lion WC), 3-0

The history of American wrestling features many situations where a great champion is followed by another great champion, a sign of the quality and depth of the U.S. program. In many cases, a young star must beat the veteran star to earn the right to represent Team USA.

You can go back decades to find such examples. Dave Schultz takes over from Lee Kemp. John Smith takes over from Randy Lewis. Kenny Monday takes over from Dave Schultz. Les Gutches takes over from Kevin Jackson. Rulon Gardner takes over from Matt Ghaffari. Clarissa Chun takes over from Patricia Miranda. There are many more examples. Iron sharpens iron.

Today's video rewind comes from the 2015 World Team Trials in Madison, Wis., where young star Kyle Snyder faces 2012 Olympic champion Jake Varner in a best-of-three series. Snyder is hot off a win over Varner at the U.S. Open, but must show he can beat Varner twice in order to make his first Senior World Team. At stake is a spot on the U.S. team heading to the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas.

Enjoy!!!
