Two World medalists are joining the fun at Who's #1. Skylar Hattendorf and Kylie Welker both returned from the 2019 UWW Cadet Worlds in Sofia, Bulgaria with hardware. Soon they will face-off in Austin to decide who's number one at 145-pounds.
Beyond being teammates overseas, both Hattendorf and Welker are ranked at the top of their respective weight classes. When those rankings are updated we'll see Skylar and Kylie in the same weight class, with the victor of this bout occupying the number one spot.
Neither competitor is a stranger to wrestling in Texas, as both won their places on the cadet world team at the Women's National Championships in Irving. Hattendorf took out Skye Realin of Hawaii in two straight matches. Welker was equally dominant in her world team wrestle-off, beating Mia Macaluso of New York twice in a row.
Hattendorf and Welker then parlayed their domestic success to international glory, as both found the podium at the 2019 Cadet World Championships. Hattendorf made the finals before she was stopped by Japan. Welker won her final match of the tournament while earning a bronze medal.
Skylar Hattendorf, a native of New Hampshire, has many other accolades to her name. She was a USAW preseason national champion in 2018 and more recently finished as a runner-up at 2019's Super 32.
Wisconsin's own Kylie Welker also has an impressive collection of trophies. She was a 2019 Wisconsin Wrestling Federation champion and recently went undefeated in five matches at the Midwest Ironman Duals.
It all goes down in Austin, Texas on October 3rd. Tune into to see this clash of World medalists live on FloWrestling.
