Match of the Day: Alyvia Fiske defeats Victoria Francis in the 2019 U.S. Open finals
by USA Wrestling
One of the biggest surprises at the 2019 U.S. Open was Alyvia Fiske’s run to a title at 72 kg. In the finals, Fiske battled 2017 World Team member Victoria Francis with a spot at Final X: Rutgers on the line. With the victory, Fiske, a 2018 Junior World Team member, locked up a spot on the Senior National Team for the first time in her career.
While Francis would win the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament and come back to defeat Fiske two matches to none at Final X: Rutgers, Fiske continued to have a breakout year, making a second Junior World Team and placing fifth at the Junior World Champions and also competing at the U23 World Championships.
