2019 Final X runner-up and four-time National Team member Alex Dieringer announced today that he is making the move to Ann Arbor, Mich., to join the Michigan RTC. The move comes after spending the last nine years in Stillwater, Okla.

“I’m really excited. They have everything that I could imagine. I already have a good relationship with Coach (Sean) Bormet. He coached one of the Junior World Teams I was on. My former teammate Jon Morrison also trained out there for a little while, and he told me that Coach Bormet and Coach Beloglazov are two of the best technicians that he’s ever been around, so that was a big selling point for me. There are also tons of training partners there for me around my same weight like Myles Amine, Domenic Abounader and Logan Massa.”

Originally from Wisconsin, Dieringer competed at Oklahoma State from 2011 to 2016, winning NCAA titles in 2014 at 157 and 165-pound titles in 2015 and 2016. Following his undefeated senior season in 2016, Dieringer was awarded the Dan Hodge Trophy.

Since 2016, Dieringer, a 2013 Junior World silver medalist, has made the Senior National Team every year. In 2019, he advanced to the Final X series at 79 kg, where he was edged out by eventual two-time World champion Kyle Dake. Since beginning his Senior international career, Dieringer has placed top-three in every international outing, including his most recent third-place finish at 86 kg at the 2020 Pan American Championships last month.

Dieringer plans to compete at 86 kg for the 2020-21 Olympic year.
