In the 126 pound first-place match at the 2012 Junior Men’s Freestyle Nationals, two future college stars, Cory Clark and Joey McKenna battled it out on center stage at the FargoDome. The pair would never meet in college, as Clark wrestled at 125 and 133 while McKenna competed at 141 pounds.

McKenna initially matriculated to Stanford, where he earned a third place All-American finish as a freshman. After his sophomore season, he transferred to Ohio State. McKenna would earn All-American status twice more for the Buckeyes, finishing third in 2018 and runner-up in 2019.

Additionally, McKenna has had substantial international success, making four age-group World Teams. He is a 2014 Junior World silver medalist and a 2017 U23 World bronze medalist. In 2018, he was No. 2 on the National Team at 65 kg. McKenna currently trains with the Pennsylvania Regional Training Center.

Clark was a four-time All-American and three-time NCAA finalist for the Iowa Hawkeyes, placing fifth in 2014, second in 2015 and 2016 and winning a title in 2017. Clark currently trains with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club.
