Miracle wins silver medal at U23 World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Kayla Miracle wrapped up an incredible tournament with a silver medal on Friday night at the U23 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
In the 62 kg gold-medal match, Miracle faced 2019 Junior World champion and 2017 Cadet World champion Yuzuka Inagaki of Japan.
The two-time World champion took a 1-0 lead over Miracle into the break, drawing a passivity point in the first three minutes.
In the second period, a scramble ensued when Inagaki shot in on a single. During the exchange, Miracle gave up two points from exposure, and Inagaki held on for an eventual 3-0 victory.
Miracle adds a U23 World silver medal to her collection, which includes a 2016 Junior World bronze and a 2012 Cadet World bronze.
This week, she made her eighth-career World Championships appearance, third at the U23 level and second of the 2019 season. In September, Miracle represented the USA at the 2019 Senior World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, where she finished eighth. Miracle also won the Pan American Games in August in Lima, Peru.
Earlier in the day, Felicity Taylor and Maya Nelson were eliminated from the tournament, when they lost in repechage competition.
At 53 kg, Taylor fell to 2017 Junior European bronze medalist Katerina Pichkovskaya of Belarus in a decision, while Nelson went out due to injury in her bout against Iryna Koliadenko of Ukraine at 65 kg.
Overall the USA earned two U23 World silver medals and finished fifth in the team race with 80 points. Winning the team title was Japan with 230 points, followed by China with 105 points and Ukraine with 103 points.
