Burroughs beats Chamizo, joins U.S. stars Oliver, Mensah-Stock in semifinals at Dan Kolov International

RUSE, Bulgaria –Three U.S. wrestlers won quarterfinal bouts to qualify for the semifinals on Friday at the Dan Kolov International, a UWW Ranking Tournament.
One of the Americans to advance was 2012 Olympic champion and four-time World champion Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Nebraska WTC) at 74 kg/163 lbs.
Burroughs won his widely anticipated rivalry match, defeating World champion and Olympic medalist Frank Chamizo in the second round by a 9-2 margin. Burroughs led 3-2 at the break, but opened it up with a four-point blast double in the second period and added another takedown to ice the win.
Burroughs now boasts a 3-1 record over Chamizo. Burroughs won at the 2018 World Championships, in the bronze-medal bout, and in the Super Match at the 2018 Beat the Streets Benefit in New York. Chamizo won their battle in the finals of the 2018 Yasar Dogu International in Turkey.
Burroughs opened with a 9-0 win over Jitender of India. After his win over Chamizo, Burroughs secured his quarterfinal win over Abylaikhan Nursultanov of Kazakhstan by injury default. In the semifinals, Burroughs will battle Ali Umarpashaev of Bulgaria.
At 65 kg/143 in men’s freestyle, two Americans reached the quarterfinals. Jordan Oliver (Ithaca, N.Y./Sunkist Kids/Finger Lakes RTC) got his offense going, hitting leg shots for a 12-1 technical fall over Evan Henderson (New York City, N.Y./TMWC/NYRTC). Oliver will battle Selahattin Kilicsallayan of Turkey in the semifinals.
Oliver opened with a 3-3 win over Agustin Destribats of Argentina, then defeated Bernard Futrell of the USA, 10-0.
2018 World bronze medalist Tamrya Mensah-Stock (Colorado Springs, Colo./TMWC/OTC) also advanced to the semifinals, with a first-period pin of quarterfinal win over Eun Sun Jeong of Korea. She has drawn Adela Hanzlickova of Czechia in the semifinals.
Mensah-Stock scored a pair of 10-0 technical falls to reach her quarterfinal bout, putting away Olympic medalist Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus of Poland and American Alexandria Glaude.
The semifinals begin at 5:00 p.m. local time, which is seven hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone. The tournament is broadcast live on FloWrestling. It is followed by the medal rounds from the first day of action. Seven USA athletes go for medals at 6:00 p.m.
