#WomensWednesday: With six new U15 World champs, U.S. women have now won 52 World-level titles

Adeline Gray, shown at the 2018 World Championships, is a four-time Senior World champion, and also won World titles on the University and Junior levels for Team USA.


With the addition of six new U15 World champions on Tuesday, the United States has won an impressive 52 gold medals at the Olympic and World levels at all ages.


The USA can rightfully call itself one of the world powers in women’s wrestling, and has been successful at the age-group and Senior levels.


The U.S. woman with the most World or Olympic titles is Adeline Gray with six. She has won four Senior World titles, one University World title and one Junior World title.


The first U.S. woman to win a World title was Tricia Saunders in 1992 on the Senior level. With four Senior World titles, Saunders is No. 2 on the gold-medal list behind Gray.


Four athletes have won three gold medals in their careers: Kristie Davis, Elena Pirozhkova, Helen Maroulis and Ali Bernard. Maroulis is the only U.S. woman to win an Olympic gold medal so far.


The USA has won a gold medal in the women’s division at every World-level event it has entered but two. The exceptions are the World University Games (a multi-sport event), and the new U23 World Championships, in which Team USA is still seeking its first champion after the first two have been held.
