The Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) has unanimously voted to officially sanction women’s high school wrestling.
The decision was announced by Arkansas Wrestling Association President and Arkansas Wrestling Academy founder Greg Hatcher on Wednesday.
According to Hatcher, the girl’s state wrestling tournament will be held the Thursday before the annual boy’s state wrestling tournament in February at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock.
Girl's and women’s wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. There are now 17 state high school athletic associations that have created or approved official girl’s state high school wrestling championships, with many other states in-process.
The high school state associations with sanctioned girls divisions (alphabetically): Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Washington, D.C.
USA Wrestling's Girls High School Development Committee, led by Joan Fulp and Andrea Yamamoto, have been working with other organizations nationwide on this project, with great success.
