Quarterfinals complete, semifinals set at UWW Cadet Freestyle Nationals

AKRON, Ohio - Day one in Akron, Ohio is complete, and the semifinals are set for UWW Cadet freestyle.
To start the day off at 45 kg, Brandon Cannon took out Fargo champion Mason Gehloff in the very first round.
Corey Land is making a name for himself and his home state of Alabama at 48 kg. The Moody, Al., native has outscored his opponents 29-1 so far.
In one of the marquee quarterfinal matchups, Fargo champion Drake Ayala defeated FloNationals champion Joey Cruz 9-6. Cruz went up 6-0 off the bat, but Ayala stormed back to win.
At 55 kg, Jesse Ybarra tech falled 2018 World Team member Chanace Lamer, setting up a semifinal showdown with Fargo champion Jakason Burks. The winner of that semifinal will either get Fargo champion Nicolar Rivera or two-time World Team member and Youth Olympic Games champion Robert Howard.
You won’t want to miss the 60 kg semifinals. Last year’s UWW Cadet Nationals runner-up Anthony Ferrari will be taking on Fargo champion Josh Edmond, and Fargo champion Dominick Serrano will be taking on FloNationals champion Jesse Mendez.
2018 Cadet World bronze medalist Alex Facundo escaped a scare in the 71 kg quarterfinals. The Davison, Mich. native was trailing 1-1 on criteria before earning a step-out point to win 2-1.
Last year’s 182 lbs. Fargo 8th place finisher took out last year’s 160 lbs. Fargo champion at 80 kg when Colton Hawks defeated Quayin Short 5-0. Short hadn’t given up a point in his first two matches.
In another deep weight class, Fargo All-American Kyle Haas took out Fargo champion Rocky Elam and Fargo champion Noah Pettigrew defeated Silas Allred at 92 kg.
110 kg semifinals will be a battle as all eight semifinalists have yet to give up a point.
Semifinals will begin at 9:30 a.m. EST and can be streamed live on FloWrestling.
