Over the next few days, TheMat.com will be releasing the tentative delegation rosters for the state association teams which will be competing at the U.S. Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D., July 12-19.
These rosters will include athletes who are competing in all six national tournaments, broken down by weight class and style.
Currently, state associations are entering their teams through USA Wrestling’s membership system. As the delegation rosters are completed, we will edit and review them, and post them for fans to enjoy.
We will also note the returning All-Americans on each team, as well as any wrestlers who are in the most recent FloWrestling High School Rankings for boys as well as the National High School rankings for girls. The FloWrestling rankings do not include graduated seniors, while the National Girls High School Rankings include graduated seniors.
Today we provide rosters from Pennsylvania, Arizona, Tennessee, Kentucky and Maine.
Pennsylvania is loaded in all styles, with three 2018 16U national champions on the roster, a pair in Greco-Roman with Sheldon Seymour and Kolby Franklin, as well as a freestyle champion in Luke Stout. The team has 12 returning 16U All-Americans and two returning Junior All-Americans. The 16U All-American boys who were placers in both styles last year are Seymour, Franklin, Dorian Crosby and Colby Whitehill. But what makes the Pennsylvania team so intriguing is the number of nationally ranked wrestlers on the team. In the FloRankings for boys, the Keystone State is bringing 14 ranked athletes. On the women’s side, PA has five nationally ranked wrestlers in the draw. Expect this large team to do very well once again.
Arizona brings a pair of returning Junior All-Americans to Fargo, with Aaron Gandara in Greco-Roman and Zachary Espalin in freestyle It’s 16U returning All-Americans are Nicholas Steele in men’s freestyle and Carolina Moreno in women’s freestyle. Moreno is also in the girls national rankings.
Tennessee is led by a pair of athletes who were 16U All-Americans in both styles last year, Trey McDaniel and Cody Chittum. McDaniel is nationally ranked in the FloRankings. Cooper Flynn was a 16U freestyle All-American in 2018. Add in two national ranked girls in Isabella Badon and Emma Walker.
The U.S. Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D., will be broadcast live on FloWrestling.
