Menlo jumps McKendree in WCWA team rankings weeks prior to national championships

The WCWA has released its pre-tournament rankings for the WCWA National Championships, which will take place Feb. 7-8 in Atlanta, Ga.

There is a new No. 1 team since last month’s rankings as Menlo College has jumped McKendree University with 13 ranked wrestlers for a projected 105 team points. McKendree is No. 2 with 15 wrestlers ranked for a projected 93 points.

Headlining Menlo’s squad are a pair of true freshman, who have claimed spots atop the rankings, including Alleida Martinez at 109 pounds and Gracie Figueroa at 116 pounds. Figueroa moves up from the No. 2 spot in the December rankings.

Another true freshman to take over the No. 1 spot is Jayden Laurent of Lakeland University, who is now the top-ranked wrestler at 143 pounds.

Those maintaining their top spots in the rankings are Asia Ray of Wayland Baptist at 101 pounds, Martinez at 109 pounds, Dominique Parrish of Simon Fraser at 123 pounds, Abigail Nette of Emmanuel at 130 pounds, Nicole Depa of Simon Fraser at 136 pounds, Alex Glaude of McKendree at 155 pounds, Brittany Marshall of Wayland Baptist at 170 pounds and Paige Baynes of Wayland Baptist at 191 pounds.
