Iowa puts seven wrestlers into Midlands finals; UNI and Purdue get two finalists

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – No. 1 ranked Iowa placed seven wrestlers into the Midlands finals, going 7-3 in their semifinal matches on Monday afternoon.
Hawkeyes in the finals are Austin DeSanto (133), Max Murin (141), Pat Lugo (149), Kaleb Young (157), Alex Marinelli (165), Abe Assad (184) and Anthony Cassioppi (285).
No. 1 seed and two-time NCAA champion Spencer Lee of Iowa took a medical forfeit in the semifinals, which advanced No. 5 seed Michael Deaugustino of Northwestern into the finals against No. 2 seed Pat Glory of Princeton.
The top two seeds were beaten in the semifinals at 197 pounds. No. 5 seed Jay Aiello of Virginia beat No. 1 seed Jacob Warner of Iowa, 9-7 in sudden victory. No. 3 seed Christian Brunner of Purdue stopped No. 2 seed Pat Brucki of Princeton, 4-3.
An unseeded wrestler reached the Midlands finals, Markus Hartman of Army West Point at 157 pounds. Hartman has beaten the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 8 seeds so far this tournament. He has drawn No. 2 seed Kaleb Young of Iowa in the finals.
Along with Iowa, the only teams with more than one finalist are Northern Iowa and Purdue, which both have two finalists.
The consolation semifinals are currently still underway
