Midlands Session I update: Iowa punches 12 into quarterfinals to lead in the team standings

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – No. 1 ranked Iowa pushed 12 wrestlers into the quarterfinals, and is in first place in the team race after the first session at the Midlands Championships.
The Hawkeyes pushed three wrestlers into the quarterfinals at 149 pounds, including No. 4 seed Pat Lugo, plus No. 12 seed Vincent Turk and unseeded Jeren Glosser.
At 184 pounds, two Hawkeyes are in the quarterfinals, No. 2 Nelson Brands and No. 11 Abe Assad.
Iowa is in first place after one session, with Northern Iowa in second, Wisconsin in third and Illinois in fourth.
There was one No. 1 seed who was beaten on Sunday morning, when Quincy Monday of Princeton was beaten by unseeded Markus Hartman of Army West Point, 4-2 in sudden victory at 157 pounds.
