VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia – Three American men’s freestyle wrestlers advanced to the semifinals of the Alans International on Saturday in Vladikavkaz, Russia.

Three-time World and Olympic champion Kyle Snyder strung together three wins on Saturday for a bid to the 97 kg semifinals.

Snyder opened his tournament with an 8-4 decision over Magomed Ibragimov of Uzbekistan. The American followed it up with a 10-0 technical fall against two-time age-group World medalist Zaur Kotsiev of Russia in the round of 16, and then wrapped up his day with an 11-0 victory against 2017 World Military champion Alexander Hushtyn from Belarus.

In the semis, Snyder will face Magomedov of Russia.

Two-time World medalist James Green has shown a successful transition into a new weight class, scoring a spot in the 74 kg semis.

Green won his first match with a dominant 11-0 win over Ali Muhammed Ovezmyradov of Turkmenistan. In the quarterfinals, he surpassed 2019 Intercontinental Cup bronze medalist Gadzhimurad Alikhmaev of Russia, 8-3.

In the semis, Green will face 2014 Cadet World silver medalist Sumiyabazar Zandanbud of Mongolia.

Moving onto the semifinals at 92 kg is National Team member Mike Macchiavello.

In his first bout, Macchiavello scored a late takedown in the final five seconds to take a 5-3 win over three-time Intercontinental Cup medalist Muslim Magomed from Russia. In the quarters, Macchiavello breezed past Rahmangeldi Vepayev of Turkmenistan, 11-0.

In the semis, Macchiavello will take on 2019 Ivan Yarygin champion Magomed Kurbanov of Russia.

The semifinals, originally scheduled for Saturday, have been postponed until Sunday at 10 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET).

Still in the hunt for a medal is 2017 Senior World silver medalist Thomas Gilman at 57 kg, two-time World bronze medalist Nick Gwiazdowski at 125 kg and two-time Senior World Team member Zain Retherford at 65 kg.

All three athletes are still eligible to be pulled back into repechage, and their fate will be determined Sunday morning.

Gilman and Retherford both advanced to the quarterfinals before getting knocked out of the championship bracket.

Gwiazdowski dropped a first-round bout to 2019 Intercontinental Cup champion Batraz Gazzaev of Russia.
