Nutter, who also competed at the 2018 Junior World Championships, wrestled with great intensity and was willing to take risks with his technique, including some effective throws.

He opened with a pin of Zaur Nuriyev of Azerbaijan at It was a wide-open match which featured numerous throws and points on the board. Nutter led 13-7 at the break, with a big four-point throw early and a number of other scoring moves. In the second period, the score moved up to 14-9, as both athletes scored. When Nuriyev tried a throw, Nutter blocked it, landed on top and secured the pin.

In the quarterfinals, Nutter beat Assaukhat Mukhamadiyev of Kazakhstan, 5-2. Nutter opened the scoring with a two-point throw and after both athletes forced stepouts, he led 3-2 at the break. Nutter competes for the Northern Michigan University – Olympic Training Site (NMU-OTS) program at Northern Michigan.

Schultz started the tournament with a pair of technical falls. In his opener, Schultz beat 2019 European Junior bronze medalist Dariusz Vitek of Hungary, 10-2. Vitek scored first on an arm throw, but Schultz quickly re-established his dominance.

In his second match, Schultz was ahead of Aawesh Aawesh of India 1-0 at the break, but took over in the second period, getting on top and getting multiple turns to secure a 9-0 technical fall.

The quarterfinals match was closer, but Schultz was in command the entire time on the way to a 5-0 win over Youssef Ahmed Hamdy Aly Issa of Egypt. Schultz led 3-0 at the break, with a passivity penalty against Issa and a takedown by Schultz late in the first period. In the second period, Schultz secured another takedown to close out the victory.
