TBILISI, Georgia - Three U.S. wrestlers competed today at the Tbilisi Grand Prix.

Shelton Mack (Manhattan, N.Y./TMWC/NYRTC) went 1-1 and will be wrestling for bronze tomorrow. The Columbia University assistant coach won his first match on criteria 202, but was then defeated by Akhmednabi Gvarzatilov of Azerbaijan in the semifinals 12-2.

Evan Henderson (New York, N.Y./TMWC/NYCRTC) dropped his first match to Levan Kelekhsashvili of Georgia 10-7, but was pulled back into tomorrow’s repechage when Kelekhsashvili defeated Emamichoghaei Yones of Iran in the semifinals. Henderson will take on Malakoevi of Georgia, who took silver in May at the International UCkrainian Tournament, to try and make the bronze medal match.

Xavier Johnson (Camp Lejeune/USMC) failed to advance to day two of the tournament. Johnson dropped either his first or second match, and that opponent failed to make the finals, thereby ending Johnson’s tournament.

Wrestling will get back underway tomorrow at 10 a.m. local time.
