Six U.S. World Team members to wrestle for bronze in Poland, Fearnside will wrestle for gold

Max Nowry is one of six World Team members who will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.
Warsaw, Poland- The first day of wrestling is finished, and several Americans are in medal matches in the Poland Open (women’s freestyle) and the Pytlasinski Memorial (Greco-Roman).
Amy Fearnside is the only wrestler representing the USA to make the finals. At 50 kg, she picked up 10-0, 5-0, and 10-4 victories on her way to the finals. Fearnside is coming off of a Canada Cup title, where she torched the field, earning the Outstanding Wrestler award while going unscored upon. She will face Valentina Islamova Brik of Kazakhstan who formerly wrestled for Russia,
The two Senior World Team members competing in women’s freestyle, Jacarra Winchester (55 kg) and Victoria Francis (72 kg), are both still in the hunt for bronze medals.
Winchester won her opening bout over 2018 Russian champion Liubov Salnikova, 10-9. She dropped her next match to another Russian opponent Marina Simonyan, 5-1. Winchester has Lenka Hockova Martinakova of the Czech Republic, a veteran who has wrestled in 10 Senior World Championships, in repechage.
If she wins, she will face fellow American Dominique Parrish for bronze. Winchester defeated Parrish at Final X: Lincoln in two-straight matches to earn the World Team spot.
Francis also started her tournament out with a win, defeating 2018 U23 World bronze medalist Zhamila Bakbergenova of Kazakhstan, 4-0. She lost her next match, 8-2, to 2018 World silver medalist Koumba Larroque of France. She will battle with Mongolia’s Banzragch Ogunsuren for bronze.
On the other side of the bracket, Imam Kazem will also wrestle for bronze. She lost her only match of the day 4-0.
At 59 kg, both Abigail Nette and Alexandria Liles are in contention for bronze medals. Liles went 0-1, and dropped straight into the bronze medal match where she will face Anhelina Lysak of of Ukraine.
Nette won her first match 11-0, before falling to Liubov Ovcharova of Russia. In repechage she will wrestle Hungary’s Erika Bognair. If she wins, she will wrestle Altansetseg Battsetseg of Mongolia for bronze.
Four Greco-Roman World Team members, Max Nowry (55 kg), Ryan Mango (63 kg), Raymond Bunker (72 kg) and John Stefanowicz (82 kg) will wrestle for bronze medals tomorrow as well.
Nowry and Stefanowicz both emerged as the No. 2 wrestler from a three-man pool to advance to the semifinals. Nowry lost 2-0, to Ibraguniv Elchiv of Russia. Stefanowicz was thwarted by 2017 Junior World bronze medalist Salih Aydin of Turkey, 10-0.
Bunker opened the tournament with a 9-1 technical fall over Bartlomiej Klimek of Turkey. In the semifinals he fell to Amoyan Malkhas of Armenia, 9-0.
Mango went 0-1, dropping his only match to Oleksandr Hrushyn of Ukraine. He was dropped straight into the bronze medal match where he will see Turkey’s Bilici Rahman.
Tomorrow action will resume at 4 am Eastern Standard Time.
