NMU-OTS Greco-Roman program gives out its five annual awards, with Roberts named Most Valuable

The Northern Michigan University-Olympic Training Site (NMU-OTS) Greco-Roman program has given out its five major awards for the 2017-18 academic and competition season.


Winning the Most Valuable Award was Dalton Roberts from Fowlerville, Michigan. Roberts won the 2018 Senior Greco-Roman World Team Trials, to earn a spot on the 2018 World Team which will compete in Budapest, Hungary. In addition, Roberts was a 2018 U.S. Senior Open champion. He won the 2017 U23 World Team Trials, then competed in the 2017 U23 World Championships in Poland, where he placed ninth. Roberts is studying Marketing.


Winning the Academic Award was Jordan Auen of San Jose, Calif. Auen is studying Mechanical Engineering.


Receiving the top Newcomer Award was Britton Holmes of Peyton, Colo., who was a freshman last year. Holmes is studying Criminal Justice.


The Volunteer Award went to Spencer Woods of Kotzebue, Alaska. Woods is studying Biology/Predental.


The Most Improved Award went to Riley Briggs of Brentwood, Calif. Briggs is studying Pre-Nursing.


“They are all well deserving of these awards and is shows that hard work pays off,” said NMU-OTS head coach Rob Hermann. “It is nice to see that these wrestlers get recognized for what they accomplish on and off the mat.”
