Moe, Davis are top U.S. Greco-Roman performers at Masters F&G World Championships in Nevada

HENDERSON, Nev. – The new Masters F&G World Championships, featuring athletes who are 61-70 years old, kicked off on Friday with the Greco-Roman division at Green Valley High School.
Starting in 2017, United World Wrestling, the international wrestling federation, capped the Veterans age group at 60 years old. The athletes competing this weekend are not eligible for UWW international competition.
In weight classes which had multiple entries, a pair of U.S. athletes claimed gold medals. Bruce Moe of the Bison Wrestling Club of North Dakota won the Div. F title at 78 kg and Jeff Davis of the Florida Jets from Florida captured the Div. G gold medal at 88 kg.
Moe won the largest weight class, taking all three matches in his four-athlete round-robin. He won two very close bouts, stopping Kevin Hejnal of the Modesto Wrestling Academy, 3-2 and Paul Bulzomi of Oakdale, 2-0. His other win was a 9-0 technical fall over Lyubomir Lambov of the Chicago Wrestling Club.
Moe, who has competed at numerous Veterans Worlds in the past, was third at the 2018 U.S. Masters Nationals in both styles.
Davis swept his two matches in a three-wrestler round robin, pinning Peter Haag of the Chicago WC in 37 seconds and scoring a 7-0 decision over Dean Barnard of Morris Fitness.
Two U.S. wrestlers won uncontested weight classes in Div. G, Steve Barkman of Hunterdon Hills Wrestling Club at 62 kg and Keith Lyndaker of Pin2Win at 70 kg.
In Div. F, Poland had a pair of champions in Miroslaw Wieczorkiewicz at 100 kg and of Poland and Stanislaw Andrzej Kaminski at 130 kg. Also claiming a Div. F title was Valery Sorokov of Russia at 88 kg.
The tournament concludes Saturday morning with the men’s freestyle, which begins at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time at Green Valley High School.
The event is being streamed live on TrackWrestling, with brackets and archived video also housed there.
