BUCHAREST, Romania – The U.S. women’s freestyle team wrapped up its 2018 U23 World Championships on Friday night in Bucharest, Romania, with a fifth-place team finish.
Overall, the women’s team had eight individuals finish in the top-10, including bronze medals from Alex Glaude at 68 kg and Kori Bullock at 76 kg.
Taking fifth in the World was Kayla Miracle at 62 kg. In her bronze-medal bout, Miracle faced 2014 Junior World silver medalist and 2012 Cadet World runner-up Luisa Niemesch of Germany.
Miracle led 1-0 at the break on a passivity point. In the second period, Niemesch scored six points, thanks to a feet-to-back takedown and later exposure. The lead was too much for Miracle to overcome and she fell in a 6-3 battle.
Others placing in the top 10 were Dominique Parrish, who was fifth at 55 kg, Cody Pfau and Forrest Molinari, who were seventh at 50 kg and 65 kg, Becka Leathers, who was eighth at 57 kg, and Rachel Watters, who was ninth at 72 kg.
Winning the team title was Japan with 188 points, followed by Russia with 113 points. Rounding out the top-five was China, Ukraine and USA.
