Miracle to wrestle for U23 World bronze on Friday
by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling
BUCHAREST, Romania – For the second year in a row, Kayla Miracle has advanced to the bronze-medal match of the U23 World Championships in Bucharest, Romania.
Needing only one win in repechage to move on, Miracle took on Sakhipjamal Aleuatdinova of Ukraine at 62 kg.
The match lasted only 53 seconds before Miracle finished off the Mongolian in a 10-0 technical fall, thanks to a takedown and four turns on a leg lace.
Tonight, Miracle, a three-time age-group World medalist, will face Luis Niemesch of Germany, who is a 2014 Junior World silver medalist and a 2012 Cadet World silver medalist.
Miracle seeks to improve on her fifth-place finish at last year’s U23 World Championships in Poland.
Also competing in repechage this morning was 2017 Senior World bronze winner Becka Leathers, who faced 2018 University World bronze medalist Aleksandra Andreeva of Russia. Andreeva took the match with a 12-4 decision, ending Leathers’ 2018 U23 World Championships.
The medal matches are set for 6 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET) live on Trackwrestling.com.
