UPDATE: Wartburg puts five in finals to extend NCAA Div. III Nationals lead, as Ithaca moves into second

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Wartburg put five of its seven semifinalists into the finals, extending their lead at the NCAA Div. III National Championships on Saturday morning.
Going for gold for No. 1 ranked Wartburg are No. 3 Brock Rathbun (133), No. 1 Cross Cannone (149) , No. 2 Logan Thomsen (157) , No. 3 Tyler Lutes (184) and No. 1 Kyle Fank (197).
Both Wartburg athletes who lost in the semifinals were No. 1 seeds. No. 5 seed Jon Goetz of Wisconsin-Platteville upset No. 1 seed and returning champion Eric Devos, 16-1 at 174 pounds. Also at 285 pounds, No. 5 Jake Evans of Waynesburg stopped No. 1 Lance Evans of Wartburg, 8-6.
Augsburg remained in second place as the semifinals finished, but with the completion of the consolation rounds, including the other medal matches, Ithaca moved into second place with 75 points, which is 48.5 points behind Wartburg. Ithaca placed two low seeds into the finals, as No. 7 Ben Brisman (141) and No. 8 Nick Velez (165) won their semifinal bouts. Ithaca had two other All-Americans.
Augsburg placed three athletes into the finals, which gives them a chance to move up to second during the finals. They will be represented by No. 4 Sam Bennyhoff (133), No. 1 Ryan Epps (157) and No. 2 Lucas Jeske (165).
