Star-studded semifinals set for Fargo Junior freestyle

FARGO, N.D. – The semifinals of the 2018 USMC Junior Men’s Freestyle National Championships are set after an action-packed morning on Monday morning at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D.

Among the semifinalists are six past age-group World Team members, including 2016 Cadet World bronze medalist Travis Wittlake of Oregon at 170 pounds and two 2018 Cadet Greco-Roman World Teamers, Brenden Chaowanapibool of Washington at 106 pounds and Luke Luffman of Illinois at 220 pounds.

Other past World Team members include 2017 Cadet Freestyle representatives Julian Tagg of Ohio at 120 pounds and Jordan Decatur of Ohio at 132 pounds as well as 2017 Greco World Team member Ridge Lovett of Idaho at 132 pounds.

On track to repeat as Junior Fargo champions are Wil Guida of New Jersey at 106 pounds and Anthony Cassioppi of Illinois at 285 pounds.

There are seven wrestlers advancing to the Junior semifinals that have won Cadet Fargo freestyle titles in the past such as Decatur, Wittlake, Cullen Schriever of Iowa at 113 pounds, Colton Yapoujian of Colorado at 145 pounds, Carter Starocci of Pennsylvania at 170 pounds, Devin Winston of Missouri at 182 pounds and Nash Hutmacher of South Dakota at 285 pounds.

Also featured in the semifinals are three wrestlers who are eligible to win the Triple Crown: Cassioppi, Lovett and Jack Jessen of Illinois at 182 pounds.

The Junior freestyle semis are set for Monday at 5 p.m. CT live on Flowrestling.org.
