Shilson, Kilty unbeaten after day one at Klippan Cadet Lady Open, as seven U.S. women advance to day two

KLIPPAN, Sweden – Past Cadet World medalists Emily Shilson (Maple Grove, Minn./Titan Mercury WC) at 46 kg/ 101.4 lbs. and Macey Kilty (River Falls, Wis./World Gold WC) at 65 kg/ 143.3 lbs. remain unbeaten after the first day of competition in the Cadet division at the Klippan Lady Open on Friday.
The Cadet division of the Klippan Lady Open is a conducted in a two-pool, double elimination, vertical pairing system. It is being held over two days
Shilson, who won a Cadet World silver medal in 2017, scored a technical fall over Justin Vigouroux of France in her only bout on Friday. Shilson has drawn Miyu Nakanishi of Japan in her next match on Saturday.
Kilty, a 2016 Cadet World bronze medalist, went 2-0 in her pool competition on Friday, winning both of her bouts by 10-0 technical falls. Kilty will battle Elvira Braun of Sweden in her next match on Saturday.
The USA entered eight Cadet competitors in the Klippan Lady Open, and seven of the Americans have advanced to Saturday’s competition and still remain eligible to compete for a medal. Five of the U.S. Cadet women have suffered one loss, but still remain alive in this double-elimination tournament.

The Cadet division will conclude on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. local time in Klippan, which is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone (3:00 a.m. ET start time).
This highly competitive age-group international event is held alongside the Klippan Lady Open on the Senior level, which is a UWW Ranking. The United States has entered 18 Senior athletes in the Klippan Open this year, who have all weighed in and received their draws. The Senior division competition begins at 1:00 p.m. local time (7:00 a.m. ET). Results and a live stream for the Klippan Lady Open Senior division will be on the UWW website at
