Six U.S. women claim golds and team places strong second at Flatz Open in Austria

WOLFURT, Austria – A team of U.S. women claimed six gold medals and nine total medals with a strong performance at the Flatz Open on Saturday.
Five of the U.S. gold medals were in the combined Junior/Senior division. Among the individual champions were three-time World champion and five-time World medalist Adeline Gray (Kingston, Pa. / New York AC) at 76 kg/167 lbs. and three-time U.S. Senior World Team member Whitney Conder (Colorado Springs, Colo. / U.S. Army at 53kg/116 lbs.
Gray dominated her weight class, winning three straight bouts with two pins and a technical fall. In addition to competing, Gray is the assistant coach at Wyoming Seminary, and helped support the 10 Wyoming Seminary athletes on the tour.
Conder was also totally dominant on the way to her title, winning all four of her matches by technical fall and outscoring her rivals 40-0.
The other Junior/Senior division champions for the United States were Michaela Beck (New York, N.Y.) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Emma Bruntil (Deming, Wash./Wyoming Seminary) at 62 kg/136 lbs. and National Team member Forrest Molinari (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Titan Mercury WC) 65kg/143 lbs.
Beck, a high school senior ranked No. 2 in the USA, won all four of her matches by technical fall and outscored her rivals 40-0. Bruntil, ranked No. 1 in the nation in high school, also had four victories, two by pin and two by technical fall. Molinari, who trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, had a pair of pins on her way to the top of the podium.
Winning Junior/Senior silver medals for Team USA were Vayle Baker (Benton, Pa./ Wyoming Seminary) at 50 kg/110 lbs., Shaina Murray (Watchung, N.J./ Wyoming Seminary) at 59 kg/130 lbs. and Ashlynn Ortega (Pueblo, Colo./Wyoming Seminary) at 68 kg/150 lbs.
The USA entered two athletes in the women’s Cadet division, scoring a gold medal at 69 kg/152 lbs. by Tiffani McNelis (Stewartstown, Pa./ Wyoming Seminary), who won four straight matches on the way to the crown.
The USA team placed second in the team race in the women’s division. Coaching the USA athletes were Assistant National Women's Freestyle Coach Emma Randall of Colorado Springs, Colo.) and former National Team member Kuuiini Robinson of Waianae, Hawaii.
The U.S. had an individual champion in the men’s Junior division, Aaron Cashman. A separate article on Cashman’s victory will also be posted on TheMat.com.
