The Jacob Curby family and USA Wrestling are pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Jacob Curby Memorial Award, 2018 U.S. Senior Greco-Roman World Team members Adam Coon and Dalton Roberts.

This award is given by USA Wrestling, in memory of Jacob Curby, a former National Team Member who passed in 2010. It is awarded to a wrestler that has displayed the strong personal character and commitment to the sport of Greco-Roman wrestling that Jacob Curby demonstrated.

These athletes, who were high school teammates in Fowlerville, Mich., will be presented with their awards during the Big Ten dual meet between the University of Illinois and the University of Michigan on Saturday evening, January 12 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Fowlerville is less than 40 miles from the Michigan campus. Tickets for the dual meet are available through the U-M Ticket Office, and it will be streamed live via BTN Plus and Flowrestling.

Established by USA Wrestling in 2010, the Jacob Curby awards recognize Greco-Roman athletes from each of our two Olympic Training Centers in Marquette, Mich. and Colorado Springs, Colo. Each year, the coaches at these sites name the annual recipients of the Jacob Curby Award in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Adam Coon had a tremendous 2018:

• NCAA Runner-up for the University of Michigan

• U.S. Open champion in freestyle and runner-up in Greco-Roman

• Greco-Roman World Team Trials champion

• Four straight falls at the World Championships leading to a World Silver Medal in Budapest

Said National Greco-Roman Coach Matt Lindland about Adam Coon:

“The U.S. Greco-Roman team needs leaders like Adam Coon. Adam defines what success is on and off the mat by his actions and attitude. Adam has been an incredible leader for the program. What Adam has accomplished on the mat has been impressive. In his first year as a full-time senior Greco-Roam athlete, Adam pinned his way to the finals of the World Championships. Each and every day, Adam embraces the challenges and leverages those challenges to find success and inspires those around him. Adam exemplifies what the Jacob Curby Award is all about - character and commitment. We are grateful to have Adam Coon in the Greco-Roman program.”

Dalton Roberts also had an impressive 2018:

• U.S. Open champion

• 2018 World Team Trials champion

• Second in German Grand Prix

• Third in Granma Cup (Cuba)

Said NMU-OTS head coach Rob Hermann:

“Dalton has been in the NMU-OTS program the past 4.5 years and his drive to exceed has never changed. Dalton shows leadership, work ethic and accountability, everything needed to be a winner on and off the mat.”

The winners of this award have their names displayed on plaques at each of the Olympic Training Centers.
