Reiniche and Hendricks pulled back into repechage of 2017 Cadet Greco World Championships

ATHENS, Greece – Two U.S. Greco wrestlers have been pulled back into the repechage of the 2017 Cadet World Championships in Athens, Greece, on Tuesday evening.

Mason Reiniche and Jake Hendricks will wrestle in Wednesday morning’s repechage at 69 kg/152 lbs. and 76 kg/167 lbs., respectively.

Reiniche was edged out by 2017 Cadet European bronze medalist Vladyslav Kravchenko of Ukraine to begin his tournament at 69 kg/152 lbs. In the semifinals, Kravchenko just edged his way into the finals with a 2-1 win over Duran Tosun of Turkey.

Tomorrow, Reiniche will face 2017 Nordic champion Samet Cetin of Norway in his first wrestleback match.

At 76 kg/167 lbs., Jake Hendricks fell in his opening bout to 2017 Cadet European bronze medalist Istvan Takacs of Hungary, 6-0. Takacs had no problem navigating his way to the finals, picking up some big wins, including a 7-0 semifinal victory.

Hendricks will match up with 2017 Nordic silver medalist Turpal-Ali Bisultanov of Denmark to start his repechage.

Two wrestlers, Dylan Ragusin and Ashton Sharp, were unable to qualify for the medal rounds.

Ragusin lost in the 46 kg/101 lbs. quarterfinals to Russia’s Anvar Allakhiarov by fall and was knocked out of the tournament after the Russian was defeated by Azerbaijan’s Nihat Mammadli in the semifinals, 6-2.

Sharp suffered a 6-2 loss in the 85 kg/187 lbs. quarterfinals to Juho Pahikainen of Finland.Pahikainen was not able to advance to the finals, losing 6-6 on criteria against Muhammed Dursan of Turkey and ending Sharp’s 2017 Cadet World Championships.

The repechage is set for Wednesday morning, beginning at 10:30 a.m. local time (1:30 a.m. ET) with the medal rounds scheduled for 6 p.m. (11 a.m. ET).
