Episode 87 of the USA Wrestling Bonus Points podcast features 2017 Junior World champion Maya Nelson.
Nelson topped the 63 kg/139 lbs. weight class in women's freestyle at the 2017 Junior World Championships in Tampere, Finland. She won four matches, including a 6-0 shutout of Bulgaria's Yuliana Yaneva in the gold-medal match, to claim the title.
Nelson is now a two-time Junior World medalist. She picked up a bronze in 2016 to go along with her recent gold.
Thus far in 2017, Nelson has earned a third-place finish at the U.S. World Team Trials, in addition to second-place finishes at the U.S. Open, Dave Schultz Memorial International and University Nationals.
